Sustainability for Seychelles

Sustainable Business Projects

Sustainability in business is all about the strategies and actions a company can take to reduce its negative environmental and social impacts in its operations.

What Role Do Businesses Play?

Businesses play a significant role in sustainability because they are drivers of environmental and social impacts, so are key actors in providing solutions which can include:

  • Reducing their Environmental Impact by cutting emissions, waste, and consumption.

  • Driving innovation in green technologies, renewable energy and circular economy initiatives.

  • Job creation through green jobs and markets.

  • Supporting environmental and social inclusion projects in communities.

In essence businesses play a crucial role in driving innovation, shaping consumption patterns, and partnering with governments, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to build a more sustainable future.

The Efforts of S4S

S4S has played an active role in greening businesses to promote climate change and sustainable. In 2020, for instance, S4S began implementing a project on greening businesses to promote climate change and sustainability action among business and other organizations in Seychelles.

The project, supported by the National Grants Committee, focused on best practices and highlighting local businesses who are leading the way to a low-carbon, sustainable private sector in Seychelles. The objective was to involve businesses and leaders in assisting, supporting, and promoting green businesses that can help decrease their environmental impact and combat climate change.

After a series of surveys, a seminar was conducted. The results of the surveys were presented to stakeholders including businesses, the Seychelles Energy Commission (SEC), and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Various representatives presented their ideas for safeguarding the environment as well as future strategies to implement environmentally safe practices. Different initiatives include that of Seybrew who aims to use renewable energy and more efficient water absorbing facilities.
